Winners announced in the “don’t cook a burra” cartoon drawing

Winners have been announced in the “don’t cook a burra” cartoon drawing competition for "Ken Kookaburra “ whose laughing words on radio brought hundreds flocking to his web site, www.dontmakemelaugh.com.au.
Ken says of people who believe” logging native forests really doesn’t matter because they regrow (CHUCKLE)........
Gee, lucky us..... I can’t wait.
And don’t even get me started on global warming.......
What are they trying to do.... Cook- a- burra??"

This line was the inspiration for the competition run by South East Region Conservation Alliance(SERCA) with around 16 member organizations who passionately work to protect the forests of the south east from degradation through industrial scale logging primarily for woodchips, and wildlife habitat destruction such as is happening on Mumbula Mountain where a small remnant population of koalas have recently been surveyed in the Mumbulla State Forest.

Joey Muller of Moruya Heads was the out-right winner in the “don’t cook a burra” cartoon drawing competition. 
" This is a delightful rendition of Australia’s celebrity bird, the laughing kookaburra. The judges especially liked Joeys artistic and bold use of coloured and patterned shapes and spaces with the “don’t cook a burra” message bubble from the beck." said Prue Acton, one of the judges from SERCA who ran the competition.

As no entries were received in the 12-18 years section, the judges decided to award second and third prizes in the 5-11 section.

Corey Blyth of Kyle Bay won second place The judges said," The judges especially liked the strong design, big simple shapes and details such as the laughing face, and message on the singlet , complete with neckpiece - a very smart kookaburra!"

Jordan Constable, from Tanja  won third prize wih a simple design, , well drawn and coloured.

Miranda Constable,Tanja Rob Muller,Moruya Heads and Kirrily Blyth, Kyle Bay, all  5 years old, were given Special Mentions in the 5-11 section of the “don’t cook a burra” cartoon drawing competition.

The winning cartoons will go on www.dontmakemelaugh.com.au and the winners receive family passes donated by Potooro Palace. This native animal education sanctuary about ten minutes from Merimbula in the beautiful Bega Valley, provides a rare opportunity to see a koala, wander amongst the kangaroos, touch a snake, stroll through the cooling mist of the walk-through aviary, go for a ride on the mini train or have lunch and a great coffee at the Blue Wren Café.  Potoroo Palace is a not-for-profit organisation passionate about caring for the Earth.
